A New DVD/Video from the Education Department
A new, exciting educational film for teachers, Children's and Youth Leaders in Parishes!

A bumper resource pack including colour images, activities and information sheets is in preparation to accompany the film - see below right.

If you are looking for a fresh and exciting way to introduce young (and older!) people to pilgrimage in Walsingham this DVD/Video presentation is for you!
The film features a group of Sixth Form students and primary school children who arrive in Walsingham and begin their pilgrimage journey of exploration. They visit the Slipper Chapel, walk the Holy Mile, explore the Abbey grounds and visit the Anglican Shrine. With the help of music, vivid imagery and captivating drama, the story of Lady Richeldis and her visions is re-created on film. In addition there is a 'video diary' at the end which offers a personal, first-hand experience of a visit to the Shrine compiled by one of the students. This will be particularly useful to young people following a GCSE course on pilgrimage and to any leader who is planning to bring a group of children/young people to Walsingham.

Orthodox Mysteries - sacraments and worship of the Orthodox Church

A useful resource for teachers and especially for students at KS3 and KS4. A clearly set out, illustrated booklet that gives a comprehensive description of worship in the Orthodox tradition.    Available from the Shrine Shop; cost £4.95

Pod & Ezzie Walk the Holy Mile

At last the long-awaited sequel to Pod & Ezzie on Pilgrimage, written by Janet Marshall and delightfully illustrated by Rebecca Johnson. In this second book Pod and his cheeky friend Ezzie the donkey, who are pilgrims to Walsingham, walk the famous Holy Mile. They visit the medieval Slipper Chapel and Holy Spirit Chapel, now the site of the RC National Shrine of OLW. Whilst there Ezzie gets up to all sorts of mischief, but learns a lot about what makes this holy place so special for Christians.  This humorous and poignant story with its beautifully drawn, colourful illustrations offers a useful follow on from the first book and offers teachers, leaders and parents useful preparation or follow-up before or after a pilgrimage or educational visit to Walsingham. It is also ideal as a stocking filler for Christmas. Available from the Shrine Shop; cost £4.99

Special people, special places

A new book from Janet Marshall which links the theme of  'life as a journey to the concept of 'Christians on the move'.  This is developed into an exploration of pilgrimage in the Bible. The book also offers a close look at ten sites of Christian pilgrimage around Britain - including S. Werburgh at Chester Cathedral, S. Winifred's Well at Holywell, Canterbury Cathedral and Westminster Abbey plus, of course, the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. Each section of the book is a self-contained unit which can be used individually or as a whole.  Each theme in the book is linked to the new non-statuory framework for Religious Education. It is fully photocopiable and provides fact files, guidance notes for suggested activities and discussion, as well as stories, plays and poems. Attractive, eye-catching illustrations have been drawn by Mary Hall; these expand into fully illustrated worksheets at the end of the book.
Available from the Shrine Shop; cost
£9.99
