Under the overall direction of the Priest Administrator, the Shrine staff cover all aspects of the complex operation needed to welcome pilgrims throughout the year. During the two months – December and January – when the accommodation is closed, there is also much to be done cleaning and refurbishing in readiness for a new pilgrimage season.
The Priest Administrator works closely with the Directors of Finance, Operations, Communications & Facilities to achieve the smooth running of the Shrine.
The Shrine Office – is where all major financial, legal and administrative work for the Shrine is performed. Housed in offices above the Shrine Shop the staff include the Director of Finance (Sarah Carter), the Shrine Office Manager (Marisa Kontochristos) and the Finance Officer (Russell Roberts).
The Director of Facilities is also based in the Shrine Office. Karl Jackson is our fully qualified Health and Safety Officer who heads a team of two maintenance men (Peter Jackson and Ian Beckford), the Shrine gardener (see below) and two security officers, Errol McColl and Jonathan Bardwell. Ian Beckford acts as a relief security officer when required.
The Director of Operations is Christopher Hamilton-Emery who in addition to staff recruitment and aspects of HR, has oversight over the Hospitality Department, Refectory and Shrine Shop.
The Hospitality Department (Reception and Housekeeping) is headed by Keith Tuck (Hospitality Manager), assisted by Jeremy Gash (Pilgrim Hosteller). The team includes reception staff (Lisa Sayce, Karen Newell and Lesley Hughes). Lisa Sayce is also Head of Housekeeping in charge of the hugely important body of housekeepers.
The Refectory and Norton’s Café-Bar – Pat Marshall is the Catering Manager working with Simon Walker (Head Chef) and a team of chefs and kitchen porters. Carol Wake is the dining room supervisor with a strong group of assistants who work to keep the refectory looking clean and tidy. Shane Wake (head) and Kyran George & Melissa McColl (supervisors) look after Norton’s Café-Bar which has its own team of chefs.
The Shrine Shop – is managed by Robert Graham with the help of Nicky Platten, Dominique Smalley, Sue Kimbley, Isla Clarke and Sue Hart.
The Director of Communications is Victoria McDougall. She is responsible for all aspects of publicity and outreach (membership, fund-raising, the website, social media and the Shrine's Welcome Centre and its Stewards) – and is assisted by Nigel Maggs-Oosterhagen (Membership Officer) and Stuart Grout (Membership Assistant).
The College/Shrine Church – Fr Kevin Smith’s (Priest Administrator) department, with his PA (Venetia Davies), Shrine Priest (Fr Andreas Wenzel), the Director of Music (Nick Kerrison) and the sacristans (Marc Thurlow and Stuart Grout).
The Schools Department – is administered by Caroline Ward. Pauline Lovelock, Alan Heath and Geoff Arden - are all former teachers who assist with school visits to the Shrine.
The Gardens – Steve Eley is our full-time gardener. Every month Tessa Hobbs - the garden's designer, helps Steve with new planting and innovation.
