Coventry Cathedral – Walsingham Festival

The Shrine is very pleased to announce that Coventry Cathedral will host a Regional Walsingham Festival on Saturday 8th December 2018 (The Feast of the Immaculate Conception). It is hoped that Walsingham pilgrims from all over the Midlands will gather together at this very special event.

The day’s programme will begin at 11.50 am with the Welcoming of the Image of Our Lady of Walsingham followed at 12 noon by Solemn Eucharist. The principal celebrant will be the Master of the Guardians, the Rt Revd Philip North (Bishop of Burnley) and the preacher, the Rt Revd Christopher Cocksworth (Bishop of Coventry). After the Eucharist, picnic lunches may be eaten inside or outside the cathedral – and there are also plenty of nearby hostelries and cafes.

Children’s Workshop – There will be a children’s workshop during the Liturgy of the Word in the Unity Chapel with Caroline Ward, the Shrine’s Schools & Young Pilgrims Officer. Children attending the workshop are invited to gather at the West Doors at 11.50 am to welcome the Image of OLW. Activity booklets will also be available.

At 3.00 pm there will be a service of Sprinkling, the Liturgy of Healing & Reconciliation in the presence of the RC Archbishop of Birmingham, the Most Revd Bernard Longley who will also give an address. Benediction will be given by The Rt Revd Jonathan Goodall, Bishop of Ebbsfleet.

Tickets are not required in order to attend the services. Priests Associate of the Holy House of Our Lady of Walsingham are invited to concelebrate the Eucharist. Please bring an alb and white stole. (Please note: Priests Associate of the Holy House wishing to concelebrate must hold a Licence or a PTO.)
