The Assumptiontide festivities began on Tuesday afternoon with a concert, in S.Mary’s Parish Church, given by the choir Cantores Mariae under the direction of Nick Kerrison.
This was followed by the Assumptiontide Lecture by Dr Margaret Barker entitled “The Titles of Mary: Evidence from the Jordanian Lead Books”.
Solemn Vespers & Benediction was celebrated at the Shrine Church before the evening Ecumenical Torchlight Procession from St Mary’s to the Roman Catholic Church of the Annunciation and the Anglican Shrine.
On Wednesday, the Feast of the Assumption, Solemn Mass was celebrated at the Shrine Church and the Preacher was Fr David Nicholson SSC, Vicar of S.John the Baptist, Cudworth & Chaplain to HM The Queen. In the evening there was the candlelit Procession of Our Lady and Benediction.
Assumptiontide festivities concluded with the Parish Mass and Procession at St Mary’s on Sunday. At the end of the service the Churchwardens announced the appointment of The Revd Dr Harri Williams as Parish Priest of the Benefice, which was received with loud applause.
