School Visit Programmes

We offer a number of educational programmes to suit various age groups; most of these last a whole day (usually 10.30am to 3.00pm). Whatever else may be provided, our programmes always include the theme of pilgrimage and a visit to the Shrine Church.

Full details of the programmes offered by the Schools' Department plus guidance for visiting groups can be found in the Schools' Brochure. Click here for a printable PDF.

Residential visits offer far greater scope for planning an unhurried programme and we can tailor-make a package to suit the needs of your students. Please ask about additional sessions which can be included in your package.

Most of the programmes can be adapted for small groups of special needs students.

The department is staffed by an established team of experienced and qualified teachers.

Young Pilgrims visiting Walsingham with their Parishes

The Department has begun to expand its activities and support for young pilgrims who are visiting the Shrine with their parish, either for the day or staying with us for longer. There is a bench in S. Augustine's Chapel which contains a variety of books, colouring sheets, toys and puzzles which our younger pilgrims can explore during services. There is also a new activity booklet at the back of the Shrine Church, which contains the story of Walsingham and a variety of different activities to complete. We can also provide a wide variety of activity and discussion sessions during your visit and young pilgrims are welcome to assist during services either serving or reading.

During any special events taking place at the Shrine there are various activities for young pilgrims to take part in and our popular activity booklets are available for use during the services. The Schools and Young Pilgrims Officer is also available to provide support and advice for nurturing our young pilgrims - either at the Shrine or through sessions back in your home parish church. In the future we will be holding further special event days for our young pilgrims to provide further opportunities  to worship together and experience Walsingham.

For further details on our pilgrimages or on how we can support your young pilgrims in exploring their faith, please contact Caroline Ward, Schools and Young Pilgrims Officer, by email (c.ward@olw-shrine.org.uk) or telephone - 01328 824205

"The Anglican Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham provides curriculum-based education programmes aimed at enhancing pupils' classroom studies of moral, spiritual and cultural issues and encouraging them to open their minds to all aspects of the world around them."
